Amphitheater and Trading
Post
Preservation
Theater's and Arenas, the City agency with jurisdiction
over the Amphitheater, is moving forward with renovation plans and
has made two recent presentations to the Landmark Preservation Commission.
FORR's Architectural Preservation Committee has testified at both hearings.
We've established credibility with the LPC and commissioners have urged
the City to consider FORR's position as they move forward. We will
continue
to evaluate the impact of these proposals and will seek to influence
the final plans.
Parks and Recreation, the agency with jurisdiction
over the Park proper, has received a State Historical Fund grant to begin
exterior restoration of the Trading Post. Built before the Amphitheater,
this pueblo-style building is unknown to many Park visitors and has the
potential to become a fine Visitor Center, interpreting the Park's natural
and architectural history as originally intended. FORR hopes to become
an active partner in restoring and enhancing this wonderful structure.
