During the following months, weekly brainstorming sessions were held and the1995 Red Rocks Park Master Plan was studied in depth. This comprehensive document, prepared by City planners over a four year period with input from experts and citizens alike, systematically inventoried Red Rocks' many assets and documented its many needs. Outlining a careful strategy for enhancing the Park and Amphitheater while protecting and preserving its historic, architectural, cultural and natural values, the Plan proposed that a "Friends of Red Rocks" organization be formed to help implement its recommendations. Planners understood that a grassroots, volunteer organization, working cooperatively with the City, could accomplish what government alone could not. It was this suggestion, along with encouragement from community leaders, that encouraged us to create a Colorado non-profit corporation and on April 6, 1999, the Friends of Red Rocks (FORR) came into being. |
