Volunteer Call To Action
CCC Camp & Museum - The CCC Team is actively concentrating on restoring and preserving the CCC Camp, located in Morrison, Colorado. The Team met on Thursday, July 21st and were joined by Ron Garrison from the City of Denver along with Tad Bowman also with the City of Denver, and Barbara Benner representing Americorps/NCCC, to discuss finding a historical archivist and historian to go through items at the camp to determine historical significance and the proper storage of the various artifacts.
Trail Clean-Ups Trail Repair - Rail Painting - Barbed Wire Removal - Noxious Weed Removal Friends of Red Rocks always welcomes new volunteers and there is always lots do at our trail clean-Ups. These events are held on the last Saturday of every month, and they are a terrific way to get involved. Come prepared to work and have fun! We strongly suggest that you bring a sack lunch and join us afterwards.
Thank you to all the participating Friends, Hands on Denver and Americorps members who continue to help us keep the park and amphitheatre clean. If you are interested in helping the Trails Team plan for 2008, please contact Cindy. For more information on when and where we meet and what to bring Trails Team page.
Recycling at Red Rocks - This summer saw our first efforts towards promoting recycling in the parking lots during concerts. Our parking lot crews handed out bags for recycling, with overwhelming enthusiasm from tailgaters. Look for continued recycling efforts next summer, as Denver implements recycling across the city government. Contact Sondra if you are interested in helping with recycling efforts at Red Rocks.
Native Garden - The Native Garden Team would like to extend their sincere gratitude and thanks again to all who helped to clear the Garden in July. In early August, they gathered to map out a one year plan to clean out and prepare the Native Garden for re-vegetation next year. A portion of this coming Saturday’s clean up day will be devoted to clearing out the overgrown weeds and vines at the Golf Fish Pond and Bridal Staircase area, as well as to continue with the removal of noxious weeds in the Garden area. They hope to see you there so we can enjoy another day of camaraderie for this great cause and enjoy some relaxing time together at the Ambush Concert afterward. Contact Mary Ann.
Arts Team - The Art Show Team is meeting monthly to discuss ideas, interests and concepts in an effort to create a clear vision for the 2005/2006 Art Show. The focus of planning efforts during the months of August and September is centered on team building and community partnerships. We are asking team members to seek out local artists, gallery/museum owners/curators, art event planners, local schools and colleges plus any other group or location with an interest in participating in the art show. “Friends of Red Rocks Celebrate the Magic of Art”. Participation from any interested person/party is welcomed and encouraged. and can be done by contacting Lisa. Other Team ProjectsAmbush Concerts - Film on the Rocks National Historic Site designation - Amphitheatre Seating Replacement Open Space - We continue our efforts at identifying and contacting the Park’s nearby property owners to discuss ways they have available to help preserve and add to the Open Space surrounding the Park. If you are interested in helping with this contact Susie.
